Amanda Makki Responds to SCOTUS Strengthening the Second Amendment

PINELLAS COUNTY - Today, the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional New York State’s draconian concealed carry weapon permit system when they issued a powerful 6 – 3 ruling.

In this historic ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the majority, stating, “Because the State of New York issues public-carry licenses only when an applicant demonstrates a special need for self-defense, we conclude that the State’s licensing regime violates the Constitution.” Thomas further wrote, “…the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home.”

Republican congressional candidate Amanda Makki, running in the 13th District, issued the following statement:

“The majority decision, brilliantly written by Justice Thomas, makes it clear that the 2ndAmendment is not a second-class right. No constitutional right requires that a citizen demonstrate ‘proper cause’ before exercising said right, and the Supreme Court has now affirmed the 2nd Amendment doesn’t require it either.

“The Court’s conservative majority has once more stood for the full enjoyment of our constitutional rights by all law-abiding Americans, whereas the Court’s liberal wing and Democrats in Congress are far more interested in limiting, restricting, and violating those same rights.”

Makki has been endorsed by 13 Pinellas Mayors, more than any other Republican or Democrat in the FL-13 race. Her endorsements include: Belleair Beach Mayor Dave Gattis, Redington Shores Mayor MaryBeth Henderson, Oldsmar Mayor Dan Saracki, Indian Shores Mayor Patrick Soranno, Pinellas Park Mayor Sandra Bradbury, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, Belleair Mayor Mike Wilkinson, Largo Mayor Woody Brown, Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters, Madeira Beach Mayor John Hendricks, North Redington Beach Mayor Bill Queen, Redington Beach Mayor David Will, Belleair Shore Mayor Bob Schmidt, the 2018 Republican nominee for FL-13 George Buck, the widow of former Pinellas Congressman Bill Young, Beverly Young, Lt. General William Keyes (Ret.), SEAL PAC, The Republican Main Street Partnership and Florida’s own Maggie’s List. Maggie’s List is the leading national organization focused on electing strong conservative women to Congress.

Makki has spent her career fighting for conservative values as a Senior Republican Healthcare advisor for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, a frequent commentator on conservative ideals and strategy on Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, and several other networks. She served in the Pentagon after 9/11, and as an attorney during the Wisconsin recount for President Trump.
